Endometriosis is a gynecological disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, mainly affecting the ovaries and uterosacral ligaments. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been highlighted as an important tool in the non-invasive diagnosis of this condition, especially deep infiltrative endometriosis. The study is a literary review carried out between August and September 2024. Descriptors in Portuguese were used to search for articles on Google Scholar and PubMed. The inclusion criteria included articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese, without data restrictions, in addition to academic books. In total, 173 articles were identified, with 7 selected after analysis. Studies have revealed that MRI is the most effective imaging method for diagnosing endometriosis, with advantages such as high precision and specificity, as well as the ability to capture images in multiple planes. However, the diagnosis depends on trained technicians and the appropriate use of the technique, with intestinal preparation and moderate bladder distension. It is therefore concluded that MRI is essential in the diagnosis of deep infiltrative endometriosis, offering high precision in the detection of lesions, and, with the correct application of the technique, it is possible to provide an accurate diagnosis, helping to improve the quality of life of patients, avoiding invasive procedures.
