Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a chronic neurodevelopmental condition that affects behavior, communication and social interaction, often accompanied by symptoms such as hyperactivity, anxiety and sleep disturbances. In recent years, cannabidiol (CBD), a compound from the Cannabis sativa plant, has been considered as a complementary therapy for ASD, due to its properties that help reduce anxiety, improve sleep and reduce seizures. Although preliminary studies, such as clinical trials and case reports, suggest benefits in using CBD to alleviate symptoms associated with ASD, the long-term effectiveness and safety of this approach still needs more research. Therefore, the use of cannabidiol in ASD must be carefully supervised by health professionals, considering the need for additional studies to support this intervention in a safe and effective way for each patient.
