Abstract

This study analyzes criminal recidivism in Brazil, investigating the main factors that contribute to its occurrence and possible solutions to mitigate this problem. Based on a bibliographical review of doctrinal texts and reports on the Brazilian prison system, the study identified that precarious prison conditions, the absence of effective public policies for resocialization, social stigma faced by ex-convicts, and the lack of job opportunities are determining factors in the perpetuation of recidivism. The main objective is to examine these factors from legal and social perspectives, proposing solutions that could promote the reintegration of ex-convicts into society. Among the suggested responses are strengthening education and professional qualification programs within prisons and providing post-release psychosocial support. The methodology used was a bibliographical review, seeking theoretical grounding in academic sources and government data to substantiate the discussions. The study concludes that reducing criminal recidivism requires a joint effort between the State and civil society, focused on creating public policies for inclusion and social rehabilitation.
