Introduction: Diabetic people are more vulnerable to lower limb amputations, as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by a variety of complications, among which diabetic foot stands out. Considered a serious problem with often devastating consequences, ulcerations can result in amputations of fingers, feet or legs. Objectives: Identify the factorsthat lead to lower limb amputation in type 2 diabetic individuals, investigate the benefits that physiotherapy can provide topatient safter lower limb amputation and verify the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic procedures for prosthetics. Methodology: This study constitutes a literature review regarding functional rehabilitation post-amputation of the lower limb caused by type 2 Diabetes. The research was carried out during the period from May to November 2023, covered in the electronic databases Pubmed, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), VHL (Virtual Health Library) and Google Scholar. For the bibliographical research, the following key words were used: diabetes, amputation, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, in addition to their English counterparts. The selection criteria were, in addition to critical readings of the material found, the scientific works of greatest relevance to the topic with the most objective and most cited results. The articles identified by the search strategy were evaluated, strictly following the inclusion criteria, target audience (lower limb amputees). Results: After searching the databases, 10 articles were selected to compose the study results. Conclusion: Post-amputation functional rehabilitation, due to complications of DM2, demands a comprehensive and individualized approach, prioritizing functional restoration, emotional balance and prevention of subsequent complications. The active collaboration of the patient and the continuous support of the physiotherapist are essential to obtain the most effective results.
