This research is a study on sporotrichosis, a disease caused by dimorphic fungi of the genus Sporothrix. The Sporothrix schenckii sensu lato complex is composed of species such as Sporothrix schenckii sensu stricto, S. brasiliensis, S. lauriei, S. globosa and S. Mexicana. Sporothrix brasiliensis has been the most predominant species in Brazil and responsible for epidemics. Infection generally occurs through inoculation of the agent, when the fungus penetrates deeper layers of the tissue and converts to the yeast form. Conventional treatment for sporotrichosis is mostly carried out with itraconazole, but medicinal plants are being studied for the treatment of the disease. The objective of the work was to carry out a review of the pathology, its distribution in Brazil, characteristics and treatments with drugs and natural substances. The study was developed based on a narrative analysis of the literature regarding sporotrichosis and its prevalence in Brazil, in which the authors collected significant data subjectively in databases, in which materials such as scientific articles, theses, dissertations and books. Finally, the research found that in the last 5 years research on the subject has evolved due to the neglect of sporotrichosis with new technologies and testing methods, however studies need to continue to improve the human and animal health scenario.
