Abstract

During pregnancy, it is common for women to experience fluid retention, leading to edema, particularly in the lower limbs. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is one of the most commonly used techniques to treat this condition. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze what the scientific literature reports on the benefits of MLD for pregnant women. The study employed an integrative literature review as its methodology. The results indicated that MLD enhances blood circulation, reduces edema, pain, the sensation of heaviness, and fatigue. It was concluded that MLD is a practical, natural, non-invasive, and effective intervention, providing numerous benefits to pregnant women, such as improved quality of life during pregnancy, less limitation in daily activities, and a greater sense of relaxation and well-being.
