This article aims to report the case of bovine trypanosomosis, caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma vivax, in a herd of dairy cattle in the city of Marechal Cândido Rondon - PR. The first clinical signs reported on the property with the disease outbreak were apathy, weakness and a sharp drop in milk production. To this end, a rapid test was performed using an immunochromatographic assay for the in vitro diagnosis of bovine trypanosomiasis in five animals from the herd, with clinical manifestations. Of these, four were reactive to the test. As a prophylactic treatment, Isometamidium Chloride (Vivedium®) was administered intramuscularly to all cattle on the property, at intervals of three months between applications. In addition, control measures were adopted such as the use of disposable needles and more effective fly control. The results showed that the treatment was effective in reducing infection and improving the health of the herd, highlighting the importance of rigorous management. It is concluded that the combination of prophylactic treatment and control practices can be an efficient strategy to control and prevent outbreaks of trypanosomosis, reducing its economic and health impacts on dairy farming.
