NEPHROLITHIASIS AND DIET - CURRENT RECOMMENDATIONS

Introduction: Nephrolithiasis, or kidney stones, is a disease characterized by the formation of solid deposits, mainly calcium oxalate, which can lead to short-term complications such as pain and urinary infection, and long-term progression to chronic kidney disease. The aim of this article is to carry out an integrative review of the literature, establishing the current recommendations and evidence in relation to dietary measures for the treatment and prevention of nephrolithiasis. Methods and Results: The article consists of an integrative review of the medical literature using as a bibliographic source articles published in Pubmed that meet the inclusion criteria, being complemented by data from UpToDate. Discussion and Conclusion: There are specific recommendations in the literature regarding the management of patients diets, including adjustments to the intake of water, protein, calcium, fruits and vitamin supplements.
