OBSTETRIC VIOLENCE IN PUBLIC HEALTH: EXPLORING THE IMPACTS AND INTERVENTION STRATEGIES

This article sought to investigate obstetric violence in public health, understanding its impacts on women's health and developing effective intervention strategies to promote humanized and respectful obstetric care. This is a bibliographic review with a qualitative approach carried out between the periods of 2014 and 2024 using the databases Virtual Health Library (VHL), Latin American Literature of the Caribbean in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and MEDLINE, in English and Portuguese through the descriptors: “Obstetric violence” [and] “Impacts” [and] “Health Strategies”. Obstetric violence has significant consequences, including physical complications, negative impacts on mental health, and distrust in the healthcare system. There is a lack of trained professionals, clear policies and empowerment of pregnant women to prevent and address this violence. It is noted that the contribution of nursing to assistance to pregnant women who suffer obstetric violence requires specific skills and knowledge through a holistic approach on the part of professionals to guarantee the quality and effectiveness of the assistance provided from the first prenatal consultations. , aiming at emotional and psychological well-being during pregnancy and postpartum.
