The labial frenulum consists of an anatomical structure made of fibrous tissue, attached to the inner surface of the upper lip and the gingiva at the midline of the maxilla. In some cases, the frenulum can become pathological, leading to functional alterations, biofilm accumulation, difficulties in brushing, aesthetic issues, and diastemas. In such cases, surgical removal of the frenulum becomes necessary. This study aims to report the case of a 15-year-old patient who was referred to the Inapós School Clinic by the orthodontist, with an indication for upper labial frenectomy due to an interincisal diastema caused by the labial frenulum associated with a hereditary condition. The labial frenectomy was performed using the Archer technique, known for its quick execution and minimal discomfort for the patient. It was concluded that labial frenectomy is an effective surgical procedure in pathological cases. In the case presented, the patient’s interincisal diastema closed a few months after the procedure.
