Currently, obesity in childhood represents a major public health problem worldwide. The overall objective of the study is to address the family's role as a prevention factor against childhood obesity. This is a literature review with surveys between the periods of 2000 to 2017, where the searches were carried out in the database of the virtual health library. The results and discussions point to the concern about obesity that has hit more and more children, growing alarmingly in the last 30 years. Since poor eating habits are introduced in infancy and sustained throughout life, a disability alert is needed in parenting. Thus, it is concluded that the best way for management against childhood obesity is prevention, through actions on the importance of changing eating habits throughout the family context.
