Introduction: The history of Florence Nightingale and Ana Nery is essential for understanding the evolution of nursing. Their legacies inspire contemporary practice, highlighting the importance of the past in shaping the profession's future. The journey of these remarkable women illuminates challenges faced by nursing in different times and cultures, emphasizing diversity and inclusion in the profession. Objective: To reflect on the contributions of Florence Nightingale and Ana Nery to the construction of nursing as a profession. Methodology: Descriptive bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, analyzing scientific literature related to the research topic. Analysis and Discussion of Results: Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, challenged social norms by choosing this career, standing out during the Crimean War by implementing sanitary measures and founding the first secular nursing school in 1860 in London. She also emphasized ethics and the use of statistical data in nursing practice. Ana Nery, a pioneer in Brazilian nursing, led care for the wounded in the Paraguayan War and founded the Brazilian Red Cross in 1908. Both influenced female representation in nursing and health, challenging gender stereotypes and promoting social and health changes. Conclusion: Ana Nery and Florence Nightingale, leaders in nursing history, left a lasting impact. Their contributions shaped the profession, promoting professionalism, women's rights, and gender equality. Their legacies inspire compassionate and ethical care, reminding us of the importance of dedication and compassion in healthcare.
