Pyelonephritis is a bacterial infection of the upper urinary tract, commonly diagnosed in children. It represents a significant condition in pediatric practice due to its potential severity and complications, such a renal scarring and hypertension. This article reviews the essential aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of pyelonephritis in pediatrics, discussing current clinical guidelines, diagnostic methods and evidence-based therapeutic strategies. Early recognition of risk factors is essential to prevent complications. Assessment of family history, history of recurrent urinary tract infections and detailed physical examination can help identify children at higher risk.
