Abstract

This article aims to understand how Distance Education (EaD) expanded significantly in the post-pandemic period, consolidating itself as a modality that serves higher education students en masse. From a literature review, it was possible to identify some factors that contribute to the questions raised around the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning. Another factor observed were the contextual situations that hinder the active participation of students, preventing them from being successful in the assessments. There is also an increase in dropout rates and default among these students. Inspection around distance education centers has decreased since 2017, which favors a reduction in teaching quality levels. Issues such as the student's social conditions, professional qualifications and available teaching materials are factors that still compromise the quality of these courses in the country.
