Leprosy is an infectious, endemic and neglected disease, with the capacity for physical disability, which requires health intervention strategies. This is a descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study based on data obtained from the Disease Information and Notification System (SINAN) on leprosy in Goiânia-Goiás, from 2016 to 2020. A systematic review of the databases was carried out from SciELO and LILACS, including articles with leprosy prevention and control strategies. Documents from the Ministry of Health were also analyzed. During the study period, it was observed that the state of Goiás is endemic for leprosy and that the population's lack of knowledge and the lack of preparation of health services, both in the professional sphere and in the difficulties of physical structure and access, delay diagnoses and treatment, perpetuating transmission and worsening the consequences of the disease. Therefore, we discuss the low-cost interventions most appropriate for the reality of Goiânia, from professional training to educational actions in Primary Health Care.
