Abstract

Bem-vindo to the e-book "The Challenges of Portuguese Language Educators in Teaching for Autistic Students". This study was prepared with the objective of deepening understanding of the obstacles faced by educators not teaching Portuguese for students with autism, highlighting the need for inclusive and adapted pedagogical practices.
Divided into three main chapters, this digital book offers a comprehensive and detailed analysis of two historical, legislative and practical aspects related to the education of autistic students.
Chapter I: Autism – A Conceito em Constante Evolução
In this first chapter, I trace the historical evolution of the concept of autism, exploring the different theoretical approaches that emerged over two years. Understanding how the concept of autism develops is essential to meeting the specific needs of autistic students and adapting educational practices effectively.
The second chapter, “Autism in Brazil”, the book discusses the situation of autism in Brazil, highlighting the lack of updated data and the legislative treatment of the topic. A critical analysis of public policies and legislative initiatives offers a clear view of the challenges and advances in including autistic students in the Brazilian educational system.
The third chapter, titled, “The Challenges of Portuguese Language Educators in Teaching for Autistic Students,” is dedicated to examining the specific difficulties faced by educators in teaching Portuguese language to autistic students. In this interim, concrete cases and theoretical reflections are discussed, providing an overview of the strategies and methodologies that can be adopted to promote a more inclusive education.
Using the hypothetico-deductive method, the book formulates hypotheses and deductive inferences based on two identified problems, offering a rigorous and well-founded approach.
This study is essential for educators, school managers and everyone involved in the educational process, providing valuable and practical data to understand the particularities of teaching for autistic students and promote a more inclusive and effective education. We hope that this e-book contributes significantly to the improvement of pedagogical practices and even to all students in the school environment.
