Hanseniasis is a cronic infectious and contagious disease, caused by the Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis, predominantly affects the skin, peripheral nerves, and eyes. Brazil ranks second in disease prevalence worldwide, trailing only behind India. Consequently, leprosy prevention, treatment, and control are significant challenges in public health. To describe the epidemiology of reported leprosy cases in the state of Paraná from 2013 to 2023. This is an descriptive, quantitative, and retrospective study. Data from the Compulsory Notification Form for leprosy patients reported between 2013 and 2023 in the state of Paraná were analyzed using the Information System for Notification of Diseases/Health Events of the Ministry of Health. Analysis of 7,590 leprosy cases in Paraná from 2013 to 2023 revealed a notable male predominance (60.6%) and a significant incidence among individuals of white race/color (67.8%). Comparisons with studies in other regions highlighted variations in prevalence, emphasizing the influence of geographical and ethnic factors. In summary, this study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of leprosy in Paraná, identifying patterns, challenges, and opportunities for improvements in prevention, control, and notification strategies, aiming to reduce incidence and enhance care for affected patients.
