Fibromyalgia syndrome (FS) is a chronic clinical syndrome characterized by musculoskeletal pain, often accompanied by tiredness, unrefreshing sleep, headaches, tingling, intestinal changes, cognitive difficulties and mental pathologies, such as anxiety and depression. Predominant in women between 20 and 55 years old. The diagnosis of FS is complex due to the absence of specific laboratory markers and the similarity of its symptoms to other rheumatic diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Treatments for SF include pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Pharmacological therapy, made with antidepressants and analgesics, and non-pharmacological therapy, such as cognitive therapies and physical exercises. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of SF in Itacoatiara - AM, identifying concomitant diseases and the frequency of the main associated symptoms among patients. Qualitative and quantitative research involved interviews based on a questionnaire, revealing a predominance of women with SF, a diagnosis that is often late, and a predominant use of analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications. The study showed a significant lack of knowledge about fibromyalgia among those interviewed, with 60% saying they did not know basic information about the pathology. The results demonstrated the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of FS, integrating pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, and health education aimed at improving treatment adherence and patients' quality of life. Furthermore, the similarity of FS symptoms to other rheumatic diseases must be considered to avoid misdiagnosis.
