Abstract

Sporotrichosis is in fact a significant concern for both animal and public health. As it is a zoonosis, it not only affects the health of animals, but can also pose a risk to humans, especially those with compromised immune systems. It is caused by the fungus Sporothrix schenckii which is present in soil, vegetables, wood, thorns and contaminated materials. Felines can transmit this disease through bites, feces and contact with damaged skin. The diagnosis can be made through physical examination, analysis of skin lesions, tissue cultures or fluids from the lesions. Regarding treatment, it can be carried out through the use of systemic antifungals, while in cases considered more serious, surgical intervention may be performed to remove extensive skin lesions. The present work was carried out to describe a literature review on the etiology, clinical signs, diagnosis and prevention and to convey the importance of the disease for the health of felines and humans.
