Objectives: To analyze the access of female students from a private university in western Paraná to sexual and reproductive education to guide the use and knowledge of contraceptive methods, and how this exposure influences the understanding of contraceptives. Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach, conducted between December 2023 and June 2024, which used an online questionnaire with 24 questions. Results: Most of them recognize the importance of sexual and reproductive education and make use of contraceptive methods, having access to sex education before starting use, and that this influences the correct use of contraceptive methods. ACHO is the most widely used contraceptive method, and most of the interviewees follow the recommendations for use and understand the risks and benefits. Most academics are aware of double protection and make use of some barrier method. Conclusions: Despite the recognition of sexual and reproductive rights, the availability and accessibility of sexual and reproductive education is regular. In addition, the use of long-acting contraceptives is still low, even if they are more effective. The lack of adequate information about contraceptive methods causes inconsistency in the use and loss of contraceptive efficacy.
