Abstract

Online betting houses are becoming popular, promoted by sports teams, influencers and TV advertisements. This growth generated discussions about how to regulate the market and the impacts of this regulation. The convenience of online betting has also facilitated illegal practices and tax evasion, highlighting the urgency of regulation to mitigate users' health and financial risks. This research examines the risks and challenges of regulating gambling in Brazil, focusing on the release of online betting houses. Using a literature review, the study selects relevant articles to better understand gamblers' risky behaviors and the potential impacts of regulation. The main motivation is the growth of the sector, which affects people of all ages. Online betting, with promises of potential winnings, is prominent on the internet and in everyday conversations, increasing the importance of understanding the laws that regulate these activities. The study concludes that regulation faces significant challenges, presenting several pros and cons. Understanding the regulations surrounding earnings and the operation of online bookmakers can help resolve or mitigate problems and challenges faced by the sector.
