The Consumer Protection and Defense Program of the State of Tocantins - PROCON is implementing financial education for individuals, provided for in article 54-A of the Overindebtedness Law, which provides for the inclusion of prohibitions on consumer harassment with individuals and the determination of new conducts that must be complied with for the prevention of overindebtedness, using financial education for consumers and suppliers in relation to responsible credit practices as a proposal. In this context, the general objective of this study is to identify PROCON-TO's role in developing actions related to financial education. In order to answer the research question, the specific objectives are: to discuss the over-indebtedness law; to analyze the responsibilities presented in the over-indebtedness law, especially article 54-A; and to evaluate how PROCON-TO is implementing this legal provision. Methodologically, the study was developed using the structural method, with a qualitative approach, which involves exploratory research, supported by bibliographical and documentary analysis. Thus, the work demonstrates the importance of protecting indebted consumers and how the aforementioned law and financial education are being implemented.
