Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by neurological changes that affect verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions and behaviors, such as repetitive and focused actions. The increase in cases, especially pediatric ones, has boosted research and the importance of social and professional support. Early detection and immediate interventions are crucial for better outcomes. The pharmacist plays an essential role, providing medication guidance and ongoing support to caregivers. Objective: Review recent literature on the importance of pharmaceutical care in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Methodology: This study is a literature review, carried out through searches in databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo); National Library of Medicine's (Pubmed-Medline) and Google Scholar (Google Scholar), using inclusion and exclusion criteria in the selection of articles. Results: The study shows a low rate of specialized pharmaceutical monitoring, with only 13% of patients receiving this service. Lack of follow-up may impact treatment effectiveness, as pharmacotherapy in children with ASD must be carefully administered and monitored due to unique challenges such as sensory sensitivities and communication difficulties. Conclusion: The pharmacist plays a vital role in the healthcare team, managing pharmacotherapy and guiding caregivers. However, there is a significant gap in pharmaceutical monitoring, affecting the effectiveness of treatment. The inclusion of specialized pharmaceutical services is essential to optimize treatment adherence and provide ongoing support.
