This article explores the fundamental role of reading in the personal and intellectual development of individuals. Through a comprehensive analysis, the benefits of reading are discussed in several areas, including expanding vocabulary, improving textual understanding and stimulating creativity and imagination. Furthermore, the positive impacts of reading on the formation of values, the development of empathy and the capacity for critical reflection are examined. The text also highlights the importance of reading as a tool for academic and professional success, highlighting its relevance in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. Finally, practical recommendations are presented to promote the habit of reading in different age groups and social contexts, aiming to contribute to a comprehensive and enriching education for individuals. To this end, the following strategies were developed: a) a theoretical bibliographic research on the importance of reading and its implications for the construction of writing, based on the vision of several authors such as: FREIRE, 2005, KRAMER, SÔNIA 2003; b) field research, which included a questionnaire with students from the Subsequent Administration Technical Course, night.
