Objective: to identify the role of the nurse in the nutritional monitoring of low birthweight premature newborns, to discuss the main complications, and to describe the effectiveness of the Kangaroo Method and breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: it consists of a literature review, with a search in relevant databases, selection of articles, and analysis of the results. Results: highlight the nurse's role in assessing the health status of newborns, coordinating the multidisciplinary team, and preventing nutritional complications. In addition, the multidisciplinary approach and effective coordination of the health team are emphasized as essential to ensure the healthy development of premature newborns. Conclusion: emphasizes the role of the nurse in ensuring healthy development and transition to life outside the uterus for low birthweight premature newborns. The nurse performs functions such as continuous monitoring, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and support for parents, as well as promoting the Kangaroo Method and breastfeeding as welcoming alternatives. Adequate nutrition is emphasized as crucial for healthy growth, and the document highlights the importance of breastfeeding and the prevention and treatment of nutritional complications.
