The present study is an analysis of the incidence of anxiety and depression in indigenous communities monitored by the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) of Itamaraju-BA, highlighting the importance of qualified assistance from nursing professionals in the promotion and recovery of mental health. . Thus, the problem asked is: how can nurses contribute to the effective rehabilitation of anxious and depressed indigenous patients, despite the deficiencies and difficulties faced by public mental health policies? In view of this, the general objective of the study seeks to research the incidence of cases of anxiety and depression in indigenous communities, emphasizing the importance of qualified assistance from nursing professionals in mental health rehabilitation. From this perspective, the following specific objectives were developed: highlight the role of public bodies in providing qualified mental health care in indigenous communities, identify the factors that predispose anxiety and depression, contextualize the current situation of anxious and depressed patients in indigenous communities and present the relevance of nursing professionals in the rehabilitation process of indigenous peoples who are in psychological distress. The study is a bibliographical research of a descriptive nature, guided by the qualitative and quantitative approach, where statistical techniques were used to present the results obtained and the use of databases from the Virtual Health Library (VHL), SciELO, Google Scholar, scientific articles and magazines. Through the study, it was concluded that the prevalence of cases of anxiety and depression among indigenous people was significant, with a greater predominance in female indigenous people.
