Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents unique challenges in the literacy process, requiring adaptive approaches and specific strategies. This literature review explores the main issues and solutions found in the literature related to teaching reading and writing to students with ASD. Challenges in the Literacy Process: 1. Difficulties in communication and social interaction can impact the learning of written language. 1. Sensory sensitivities can affect concentration and participation in literacy activities. 3. Non-literal comprehension and difficulties in generalization can hinder the understanding of the alphabetic system. Effective Strategies: 1. Visual and multisensory approaches can facilitate comprehension and retention of content. 2. Use of structured and predictable routines to promote safety and reduce anxiety. 3. Integration of specific student interests in literacy activities to increase motivation. To this end, we will observe two case studies, with possible answers, found from the bibliography of Professor Dayse Serra, in her studies on neuroscience. Special education. Inclusive education. Neuroscience. People with disabilities. PDDs. High abilities and giftedness. ASD.
