Paulo Freire was a renowned Brazilian educator, born in 1921 and died in 1997, whose work had a profound impact on education and the struggle for social justice around the world. His best-known work, "Pedagogy of the Oppressed," introduced key concepts such as awareness and liberating education. Freire advocated for an approach to education that empowered the oppressed to understand and transform their reality by promoting dialogue, active student participation, and cooperation. Their method of literacy, based on awareness, has been successfully applied in several countries. Freire was a passionate advocate of popular education and saw education as an essential tool for emancipation and social transformation. His legacy continues to inspire educators and activists around the world, highlighting the importance of education as an instrument of liberation and empowerment.
