The constant evolution in the field of surgical medicine has been driven by the search for more effective and safe methods. Innovations in the surgical management of general procedures have been the subject of increasing interest, aiming to improve clinical results and patients' quality of life. These innovations encompass a variety of techniques, equipment and approaches that seek to optimize surgical procedures, reduce associated risks and accelerate postoperative recovery. Objective: The objective of this systematic literature review is to analyze and synthesize the most recent evidence on innovations in the surgical management of general procedures, with a focus on identifying trends, knowledge gaps and areas of potential development. Methodology: This review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. The search for articles was carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science databases, using the descriptors "Surgical innovations", "Surgical procedures", "Medical technology", "Technological advances" and "General surgery". Articles published in the last 10 years were considered. Inclusion criteria: Articles should address specific innovations in the surgical management of general procedures, provide relevant data on clinical outcomes and be written in English, Portuguese or Spanish. Exclusion criteria: Studies that did not fit the scope of the review, isolated case reports and articles with questionable methodological quality were excluded. Results: Analysis of the selected studies revealed several significant innovations in the surgical management of general procedures, including advances in minimally invasive techniques, use of assistive technologies, improvements in safety protocols and perioperative management strategies. Key topics covered include the adoption of robotic surgery, advanced intraoperative imaging techniques, and the personalization of treatment based on genomic data and biomarkers. Conclusion: This review highlights the importance of innovations in general surgery to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience. Identifying and implementing these innovations judiciously can contribute significantly to the continued evolution of surgical practice and the advancement of medicine as a whole.
