This a This article, based on bibliographic studies, aims to analyze the importance of reading in the formation of student criticality, since reading is fundamental for the acquisition of knowledge and autonomy. It is through reading that we can form critical citizens, capable of understand the world around them. We understand a reflective critical reader as an individual who develops much more than the ability to decode linguistic signs, but who also practices reading competently, seeking meaning for what he reads and questioning what is written based on reality. We will also see the importance of teachers working with a variety of texts with the aim of awakening in students a taste and pleasure in reading. The main authors who supported this research are: Brandão, Freire, Martins, Silva, Soares and Ruiz. Given the importance of the topic, all topics covered were also based on the PCNs. It is hoped that the considerations presented here can support further studies, as the topic discussed is not exhaustive.
