Violence against women is a serious public health problem that has affected Brazil and the world. The objective of the study was to explain nursing practices in the care of abused women who require health services, as well as the analysis of the effectiveness of this care in the life of the victim. An integrative literature review was carried out, based on the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases, where 20 scientific productions that dealt with the object of the study were selected based on pre-established requirements. The results demonstrated that despite the indispensable role of nurses in identifying violence and caring for these women based on their practices and tools, being, in addition, an educational agent, capable of carrying out the promotion of health education actions, many of the professionals still feel unprepared and are unable to carry out the appropriate medical treatment for the cases. It is concluded, therefore, that Nursing has an important role in combating violence against women, and therefore, it is essential that there is a continuous strengthening of the regulations for the conduct of health professionals when dealing with this type of violence, in addition to the approach of the subject that must be emphasized within disciplines focused on women's health, instructing future professionals on the topic during graduation, so that the cycle of disqualification is broken.
