The role of the family doctor in promoting mental health is of paramount importance, given their privileged position in the provision of primary health care. This summary highlights the relevance of integrating care and intervention strategies to address mental health issues in the community. The integrative literature review revealed that the family doctor plays a central role in the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. The integration of care between primary care and mental health services is essential to offer holistic and coordinated care to patients, promoting better clinical outcomes and well-being. Furthermore, ongoing training of family physicians in mental health and the implementation of evidence-based collaborative care models are crucial to ensuring an effective approach to managing mental disorders in the community. Health policies that support integration of care and improve access to mental health services in primary care are essential to promoting mental well-being and improving the quality of health care in the community.
