Abstract

Dear readers,

It is with great satisfaction that we present this digital book entitled "Gentrification in Brazil". In recent years, the topic of urban renewal has occupied significant space in discussions about urban development in our country. The term "gentrification" has emerged as a central concept in this debate, being often used in a broad and not always rigorous way to describe transformations in urban areas subject to government interventions.
However, the precise definition of gentrification and its application in the Brazilian context are still little explored areas, which can generate distorted interpretations and conceptual mistakes. This book seeks to fill this gap, offering an in-depth analysis of the concept of gentrification and its relevance in the Brazilian urban context.
The primary objective of this work is to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of gentrification, considering its social, economic and cultural implications. To this end, we address a variety of aspects, including its historical origin, its operating mechanisms and its consequences for local communities.
One of the main features of this digital book is its holistic approach, which goes beyond theoretical analysis to examine concrete cases of gentrification in different Brazilian cities. Furthermore, we also consider similar experiences in other Latin American countries, providing a comprehensive regional overview.
The methodology adopted for this book involved extensive bibliographical research and analysis of data collected indirectly. We therefore seek to base our conclusions on solid evidence and up-to-date information, ensuring the quality and relevance of this study.
We hope that this book contributes significantly to the academic and practical debate on urban development in Brazil. May it inspire deep reflections and encourage the search for fairer and more sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by our cities.
We thank everyone involved in this project and wish all our readers an excellent read.
