The implementation of the New High School aimed to expand students educational training beyond technical knowledge. The main changes that occurred in secondary education were the reduction in the workload of Basic General Training and the implementation of the Integrated Training Itineraries. Such changes generated different demands for state networks and schools. Therefore, the reformulation of the New Secondary Education generated divergences regarding the idealization and implementation of such a proposal. However, there are also strong supporters of updating and maintaining the reform. In this context, this article aimed to analyze the changes that occurred with the New Secondary Education in two northeastern states (Maranhão and Piaui) and discuss opinions about this new implementation based on public consultations carried out by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the Council National Education Secretaries (CONSED).
