Objective: To quantify and analyze Hospital Admissions Authorizations (AIH) for temporomandibular joint arthroplasty registered in Brazil between 2013 and 2022. Methodology: This is an ecological descriptive and quantitative study using secondary data from the Hospital Morbidity System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS) of the Department of Informatics of the SUS - DataSUS. The search was restricted to the national territory, with the selection of Hospital Admission Authorization (AIH) for temporomandibular joint arthroplasty surgery (recurrent or not), with the procedure code "0404020569", in the SIGTAP/SUS classification, from 2013 to 2022. Results: There were 4,137 hospital admission authorizations (AIH) for temporomandibular joint arthroplasty between 2013 and 2022, with a higher frequency in 2022 and a lower frequency in 2013. Elective procedures accounted for 66.33% of the total, while emergency procedures accounted for 33.48%. The Midwest was the region where TMJ arthroplasty surgery was performed the least, with 7.2% of all procedures performed, while the Southeast concentrated 40.7% of procedures performed. With regard to the Federative Unit, São Paulo had the highest prevalence of surgeries, totaling 871 (21.05%), while Amapá had the lowest, with only 1 (0.02%) procedure in 10 years. Conclusion: Elective procedures predominated, followed by emergency care, external causes and accidents. It was noticeable that the number of these procedures was different according to the region of the country and, notably, regions with more inhabitants had a higher prevalence of TMJ arthroplasty surgeries in SUS hospital production. There was also a variation in the number of hospitalizations over the period analyzed, demonstrating that this surgery has increasingly become an alternative for patients who do not respond to more conservative treatments.
