This article presents the challenges and possibilities in these twenty years of the implementation of Law nº10,639/2003, its objective is to analyze academic research regarding teacher training in light of Law nº10,639/2003. This law updates Law No. 9,394, of December 20, 1996, which establishes the guidelines and bases of national education, to include in the official curriculum of the Education Network the mandatory subject of "Afro-Brazilian History and Culture". In terms of methodology, this study is classified as a qualitative documentary research, structured using the Content Analysis method, a method selected because it enables the understanding of the history of Law nº 10,639/2003. Seven studies were selected for analysis and exploration, which make it possible to consider that although there is research on this topic, the silencing of these issues still predominates in scientific academia. This research aims not only to analyze the current situation, but also to operationalize future educational policies as an activist.
