The integration of the psychodynamic approach into cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of depression is a promising approach that aims to combine the strengths of both therapeutic modalities to provide a more comprehensive and tailored intervention for patients. This integrative perspective recognizes the importance of understanding the emotional and relational roots of depressive symptoms, while using cognitive and behavioral strategies to promote positive changes in patients' psychological functioning. The approach emphasizes creating a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship, allowing patients to explore difficult emotional issues and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. Although challenges such as transference and countertransference may arise, integrating the psychodynamic approach into CBT offers a more comprehensive and understanding approach that can significantly improve outcomes for patients with depression. However, more research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms underlying this approach and its long-term effectiveness.
