Abstract

Religious activities are known to play a central role in society, offering spiritual guidance, emotional support, and a deep sense of community to many individuals. However, when it comes to legal and employment issues, religious activities often find themselves in a unique and challenging position. This article seeks to explore the complex and delicate territory of the mischaracterization of employment relationships in the context of religious activities in Brazil under the aegis of Law 14.647/2023, recently sanctioned by President Lula. The key point of the debate revolves around the spiritual nature of religious activities carried out by religious leaders and how the new law addresses this. This research explores legal precedents and court decisions that address this issue and highlights the importance of the new law.
