The construction of knowledge in Portuguese language teaching demands activities that encourage participation and recognition as an active agent in the teaching-learning process. In Portuguese language teaching, the reading workshop is defined as a learning situation, which becomes a space to promote literature and reading to students. The general objective of this is to discuss the application of the reading workshop teaching strategy in teaching Portuguese in elementary school. This study is characterized as a bibliographical research. The relevance of this study is evident in the demands of learning to read, which are identified in the Portuguese language teaching-learning process in elementary school. The reading workshop brings students and the didactic resource closer to works of children's literature in elementary school, promoting linguistic learning and other components of the Portuguese language and also facilitating the understanding of themselves, their reality and the relationships within their environment. surroundings.
