NUTRITIONAL PROTOCOL FOR PATIENTS WITH PRESSURE INJURY FROM A PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN BAHIA

Nutrition plays an important role in the prevention, intervention and treatment of pressure injuries. This work aimed to develop a nutritional protocol for the management of pressure injuries in patients admitted to a public hospital in the state of Bahia. For the elaboration of the protocol, a bibliographic survey was carried out based on updated scientific evidence. The protocol suggests a flowchart for decision-making regarding the nutritionist's conduct, based on guedilines and national and international guidelines, and the nutritional recommendations of macro and micronutrients for patients with pressure ulcers. Nutrition contributes to the care and healing of pressure injuries, scientific evidence points to the compatibility between certain nutrients and the healing process. Nutritional assessment and intervention in these patients are often neglected. Thus, this article presents the construction of the protocol for nutritional management in order to assist the nutritional assistance of professionals in the hospital unit directed to the care of these patients.
