Abstract

The present article addresses the adaptation of the Brazilian judicial system to the digital era, focusing specifically on the Electronic Judicial Process (PJe), widely adopted by the Brazilian Judiciary during this transition, with its initiation in the jurisdiction of Pernambuco in 2011. While the shift to the electronic format has brought significant advantages such as physical space optimization, environmental improvements, and greater accessibility to the Judiciary, a critical challenge has emerged: the inaccessibility of the PJe for individuals with visual impairments. These individuals rely on assistive technologies to navigate the internet, and web pages need to adhere to the guidelines set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure universal accessibility. However, visually impaired individuals report that the PJe is incompatible with their assistive technologies, hindering its effective use. This article consists of a literature review and the results of a semi-structured interview aimed at understanding the strategies developed by visually impaired employees to make the PJe accessible to their needs. The conclusions point to the necessity of actions to bridge the inclusion gap for visually impaired employees in the use of the PJe system. These actions may include specific training and updates to ensure that the system is truly accessible to all users, regardless of their visual abilities.
