Abstract

This article aims to describe the Solidarity Economy, based on contributions from the literature, highlighting its main concepts and definitions, its affirmation in the world and its specificities in the Brazilian context. It aims to analyze its influence, as a counterpoint to the capitalist economic model, as a subsidy for innovative approaches to social and community organization. Methodologically, it includes a literature review, based on the bibliographic research technique, organized around works in printed and electronic format, available on websites of recognized academic value. In the topic dedicated to the conceptualization of the Solidarity Economy, the propositions of Santos (2002) and Leal and Rodrigues (2018) and Leonello (2010) deserve attention. When presenting the trajectory of affirmation of the concept in the world, the productions of Costa and Jesus (2017), Gaiger, Ferrarini and Veronese (2018) and Macedo, Montanuci and Ferreira (2020) stand out. Finally, the analysis of the specificity of the Solidarity Economy in Brazil is based on the contributions of Singer (2002) and Carvalho (2011). Conclusively, it is possible to state that Brazil has built its own perspective in relation to the Solidarity Economy, which is due to the great influence of social movements in its format and practical application, producing unique results compared to the reality of other countries.
