PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE UNDER THE LIGHT OF THE MARIA DA PENHA LAW

This article addresses the topic of psychological violence in the light of the Maria da Penha Law, focusing on definitions, consequences, protective measures, and the significance of the legislation. The research's objective is to analyze how the law addresses psychological violence, providing protection and resources for the victims. The method employed involved a documentary review of the legislation and an analysis of academic literature on the subject. The research highlights that the Maria da Penha Law recognizes psychological violence as a severe form of abuse, encompassing threats, humiliations, isolation, and other behaviors detrimental to the mental health of the victims. Additionally, the legislation establishes protective measures, such as the removal of the aggressor and legal and psychological assistance for the victims. It is concluded that the Maria da Penha Law plays a fundamental role in protecting women from psychological violence and promoting gender equality. However, ongoing awareness, education, and prevention are necessary to comprehensively combat this issue. This article contributes to a deeper understanding of the legal approach to psychological violence and underscores the importance of the effective application of this legislation in society.
