Obstetric violence can have an important social relevance when this practice is recognized as a violation of the woman's body and her choices regarding pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. This is a practice that is still little noticed, compared and even supported by laws in Brazil. It is essential that women's rights when giving birth are protected, recognized and that there is appropriate punishment for those who do so. The rates of maternal death and violence in the pre- and postpartum period are increasingly increasing. It is important to emphasize that all of these acts are committed without the woman's explicit consent. This form of violence represents a serious violation of human rights, compromising the dignity, autonomy and integrity of women, in addition to this lack of classification brings an affront to the principle of human dignity, set out in the Federal Constitution of 1988, which is The objective is to ensure basic rights that must be respected by both society and the State. Such a discussion about obstetric violence becomes crucial to raise awareness, empower women, push for changes in health practices, and promote a safe and respectful environment for motherhood.
