Although the use of medicinal plants to treat health problems is traditionally accepted, this practice of popular medicine still encounters resistance from health professionals, especially on the grounds of a lack of proof of its effects. During the Covid-19 outbreak, there was a significant increase in stress, anxious symptoms and insomnia and the use of medicinal and herbal plants emerges as a therapeutic alternative. The objective of this study was to carry out a literature review on the effectiveness of using Passiflora Incarnata as an alternative and/or complementary therapy for anxiety disorders and insomnia. According to the results obtained through a literature review, it is possible to verify the potential clinical application of this plant, which is indicated for treating symptoms of anxiety and insomnia, helping to reduce psychological symptoms resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it is worth highlighting the need to standardize methodological procedures and advance phytotherapy in medical practice.
