Several treatments and lifestyle modifications trained over the years are necessary to prevent the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) to kidney failure. This evolution of the disease is closely related to hemodynamic and metabolic factors, such as arterial hypertension, hyperfiltration or proteinuria, which are highly influenced by the patient's diet. A broad topic of study is the effectiveness of protein restriction and other nutritional interventions in patients with CRD, which is considered positive and recommended for the nutritional management of these patients in the 2020 update of the KDOQI guidelines. Despite the largest trial ever carried out to date, the “Modification of Diet in Renal Disease” (MDRD), does not provide benefits to patients, currently, most studies have demonstrated the benefits of very low protein diets (VLPD) , showing promise in reducing the progression of CKD, reducing urea values, increasing insulin resistance, lower production of inflammatory cytokines and lower proteinuria values. As side effects, it is possible to highlight the loss of weight and muscle mass and psychological discomfort.
