Periodontal disease is a condition, in fact a series of diseases, that affects the periodontal tissues, resulting in loss of attachment and destruction of alveolar bone. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a systemic condition that results in the irreversible loss of kidney function over time. It can be caused by several conditions, such as hereditary diseases, kidney damage, diabetes and uncontrolled hypertension. Periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease may be associated due to several common factors. This study aims to investigate the relationship between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease by reviewing research studies available in the SciELO database. PUBMED, Google Scholar. Based on the results obtained, it is expected that the study can provide guidance for health professionals in developing joint prevention and treatment strategies for periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease.
