Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects approximately
176 million reproductive-aged women worldwide. Those affected by this condition have their quality of life negatively impacted, as pain interferes with their professional, academic, and even emotional activities. It is considered the 16th most painful disease. Endometriosis is a condition in which endometrial tissue (which normally lines the uterus) grows outside of it, potentially affecting the ovaries, uterine tubes, intestines, and even more distant organs, such as the lungs. Due to its complex pathophysiology, it is difficult to treat. Evidence shows the relationship between endometriosis and certain plants such as garlic, curcumin, and ginger, which directly act on the anti-inflammatory process and consequently relieve pain. Therefore, this file aims to clarify the pathophysiology of endometriosis and elevate the conjecture of complementary treatment through phytotherapy.
