COVID-19 is an acute respiratory infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which is potentially serious, highly transmissible and globally distributed. It reached pandemic level after its emergence in December 2019, which generated concern in all sectors of the health systems, especially in surgical centers. Therefore, the general objective of this work is to provide an overview of the protocols that aim to create a safe and contamination-free environment in surgical centers during the care of patients infected by COVID-19 or suspected of having the disease. As a methodology, in this study we opted for a bibliographical research so that, for its execution, we resorted to reading different articles which covered this theme. After the end of this research, it was found that the pandemic caused by the new Coronavirus changed the routines and procedures in Surgical Centers, making it necessary to insert new safety protocols for cases of patients infected or suspected of having COVID-19, mainly aiming to protect healthcare professionals who are at constant risk of infection. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and properly apply these guidelines in order to reduce the risks of contamination that affect both the physical and psychological health of these professionals
