Recognizing the importance of effective adherence of oncological patients to their therapeutic plans for better outcomes has brought to light the development of patient navigation in healthcare. This study aims to analyze the role of the nurse navigator in the context of oncological patient care. It is an integrative literature review conducted in May 2023 using the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) and Google Scholar databases. The results of this study highlighted three thematic areas: competencies of nurse navigators and/or benefits of navigation programs (6); evaluation of outcomes achieved through patient navigation (3); contributions to improving oncological patient navigation programs (3). Thus, in the selected articles, it was observed that there are few studies in Brazil related to the implementation of navigation programs. However, it was evident that the role of the nurse navigator in the country is gaining prominence, as the results, in the face of the provided care, are positive both for the healthcare system and the involved patients.
